As mathematicians, during our lesson starters, we have been learning how to double and halve. We have worked really hard on this over the last half term and we now know how to double up to 6, off by heart. Take a look at us in action!
Design and Technology
As designers, we have created hand drums. From a list of materials, we chose what we thought would make the most noise for our instrument. Some of us chose pompoms, some of us chose beads. Press play to hear some of our finished products make a 'Kaboom'!
In celebration of Harvest Festival, Key Stage 1 went to visit Crofton's All Saints' Church. We had so much fun singing songs, winning prizes, giving thanks through prayer and learning about the importance of Harvest. Thank you for having us!
A very special visitor did an assembly for Shay Lane, today. Chris Collins is a very accomplished gardener who has even worked on Blue Peter. We were lucky enough to create and decorate our own grass heads with him. Thank you for your visit, Chris.
A handful of children explained to the rest of our class why they would be a good school council member. We then went to vote who we would like to represent our class and school. The results are in, congratulations to Amelie and Ashton!
Year One have been hard at work in our continuous provision areas, especially the role play area. Our topic is 'Kaboom', and some of our children definitely made a lot of noise in the band they have formed.
This half term our topic is 'Kaboom'. As artists, we have been looking at the work of Jackson Pollock. We learnt that Pollock would use a technique called drip painting to create abstract art. We also discovered that he did not like to use an easel, he preferred to paint with a large canvas on the floor so he could work all four sides. Together, we have created our very own drip painting, inspired by Pollock's famous 'convergence' piece. We used different techniques and motions to apply vibrant paint to the paper using a range of materials such as: sticks, lollipop sticks and syringes. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting messy this week!
